Honey from Paliurus spina-christi

For the first time in the history of honey collection, we have received monofloral honey from the drake (Paliurus spina-christi).

In the summer of 2023, Bulgaria experienced unique and unfavorable weather conditions for bees: cold and rainy, then hot and dry. It is difficult to imagine a worse situation.

When the linden and acacia blossomed, it was cool, and in some places rainy and very humid. Bees could collect nectar, but the honey did not ripen. The amount of moisture in it should decrease to 16-20%, otherwise the honey can ferment and turn into honey mash.

In July, the coolness was replaced by summer heat with scorching sun and very high temperatures. In the area of the Honey River apiary, daytime temperatures reached +40 degrees. And now, at the end of August-beginning of September, the heat is still holding on, rarely below +30 degrees during the day.

In such conditions, wildflowers stop secreting nectar and the bees have nothing to collect. In fact, bees are starving among flowering plants and summer abundance, nectar can only be collected from drought-resistant shrubs, for example, from flowering “draca”.

As a result, we got a unique monofloral honey from:
• draca (Paliurus spina-christi) 49%
• with the addition of wild flowers 23%
• a small amount of acacia 11%
• black acacia 5%
• linden 3%
• clover 2%

Honey from draca has a number of healing properties:
• Improves bowel function in case of constipation, acting as a mild laxative
• Promotes expectoration of sputum in colds and bronchitis
• Serves as a tonic for vitamin deficiencies, fatigue

Packaging: 25 kg tin cans.
